The Society for Entrepreneurial Advancement (SEA) was founded in early 2010 to foster entrepreneurship among students at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette by instilling in them an entrepreneurial mindset and providing them with the resources and support critical to starting new enterprises. In pursuit of this goal, SEA seeks to impart entrepreneurial education to the university community, promote good reading habits, and work to enhance its members? communication, presentation and leadership skills through group activities. Furthermore SEA helps establish a local and regional support network which is vital to business activities.
SEA was approved by the university as a recognized student organization in February 2010. Since then, we have hosted several meetings, presentation sessions, and guest lectures from experienced entrepreneurs. We organized our first virtual stock portfolio management competition last semester that started in March and will end in August. We plan to enter a team into a local business plan competition next semester. More information about this competition will be available online during the fall 2010 semester.
SEA is affiliated with the College of Engineering and the College of Business at the University of Louisiana. This is because we believe that technology and business form a powerful combination that can give rise to successful startups. We also believe that diversity of skills and opinions is key to the success of enterprises and thus membership to SEA is open to all students from all majors.
Our goal is to bring different minds together that have similar goals. At SEA, we strive to inspire each other by example, challenge each other with determination, work with each other with compassion, and keep the spirit of healthy competition alive that drives everyone to improve and achieve bigger and better. We work to promote young entrepreneurs that will change the world for the better.
